Music Program
Music Program
The music program at the school of Saint Elizabeth provides students with a comprehensive experience in diverse areas of music. Students receive a basic foundation in music theory, history, aural skills, and vocal music.
In pre-K 4, we focus on learning music that combines movement and singing with a wide repertoire of songs. In addition, students have an opportunity to use rhythm instruments which help us learn steady beats to simple rhythms.
The students from grades K-3 participate in the school’s Christmas concert where songs range from traditional to original music. Students have an opportunity to receive a speaking part which includes memorizing lines and developing student’s confidence in public speaking. For the remainder of the year, students begin to learn how to read and write music and applying their knowledge to a varied repertoire of music.
Grades 4-8 are responsible for the production of the spring musical as part of the music curriculum. Last year, we performed “Annie, Jr.” and this year we will be performing, “High School Musical, Jr.” There are a number of opportunities for the students to participate. Each class performs in a class song which is required of each student. Outside of the class song, students have the option of auditioning for a lead role, being part of the ensemble, or being a member of the stage crew. There is part for everyone in the musical! Aside from the musical, 4th and 5th grade students learn how to play the recorder, read music, and sing a repertoire of songs. The middle school students learn about different genres of music, music history, vocal music, and basic theory.
