Students, faculty, parents and friends of the School of Saint Elizabeth gathered at the Bernards High School track on Thursday, April 25th to remember the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.

The group joined together in prayer, recited the Pledge of Allegiance and then walked a symbolic mile around the track.

Participants were asked to make a donation for the Boston Marathon relief fund and sign their name to a paper heart which was affixed to a banner. The banner was then sent to Boston along with a check for over $2000, the total donation amount. The ceremony ended with a heartfelt rendition of “Sweet Caroline” which has become an anthem of sorts for the Boston Marathon relief effort.

School of St. Elizabeth Mom and Cross Country coach, Jackie Gilbert, scheduled the event during a regularly scheduled track practice, recognizing the demands on family schedules.  Mrs. Gilbert felt strongly about reaching out to help the victims because at St. E’s, as she said, “It’s what we do.”
